We are Ptosis: a five-piece Alternative/Metalcore band based out of New Jersey. Combining some of the new sounds we hear in the newer generation of music with sounds from music of past decades, Ptosis brings a sound that is both new and refreshing, yet familiar and nostalgic. Ptosis started out in 2006 as more of a Punk/Emo  band. It sounded nothing like it does today and it was founded by Neil Thomas, a guitarist. After recruiting cousin Craig Walker and classmate Tu Bui into the band, the future Ptosis was born.  Although bands like Trivium, Metallica, Lamb of God, and Killswitch Engage were some influences for the band, the music sounded nothing like any of these bands. Gil, former bassist and vocalist in the band, brought the more punk/emo side to the band. After Gil left the band, they decided they wanted to go the heavier route. After all, the band had been started so that they could be more like some of their heroes in Metallica, Killswitch Engage, etc… In late 2008, Bryan San Martin joined the band through bandmix.com . Bryan brought influences like Iron Maiden, As I Lay Dying, The Devil Wears Prada, and last but most certainly not least Miss May I to the band. Sharing mutual influences with the band such as the ones stated earlier, the quartet were able to write songs like Fallout, and Down in Flames. It was decided that Bryan was to be the lead vocalist/bassist in the band. After much contemplation, Bryan decided that he would rather be a backup vocalist so that he could play more fun and complex bass lines. In December of 2008, the band recruited Ronnie Cinnella as their permanent lead vocalist. The band was complete. In February 2009, the band played their first show together as the NEW Ptosis. Progressing over the year, the band had finally established a sound. Their signature sound can be heard in their later songs such as Illusions, High Tension, and Down in Flames. It is somewhat reminiscent of Metallica, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, and even Chevelle. Now in 2010, Ptosis has achieved a lot more than expected from themselves. They have played with many great, great bands such as Avenida, Floral Terrace, One Brick Down, and, The Victory, and  Severed. As well as many national acts such as The Smashup, Renae, Octaves,  Adelita’s Way, The After Midnight Project, Miss May I, Mobile Deathcamp, Emmure, Terror, After the Burial, and Thick as Blood. The members of Ptosis are now currently working on a full length album for mid-summer 2010, and are currently looking for a record label to represent and distribute them, and help them tour.
Thank you to everyone who has helped us out and supported us as friends and as a band. We really want you to know that we appreciate all the help and support we have received. You know who you are, and we will not forget who you are if God-willing we are given the opportunity to advance in our musical career and further progress on this journey. As our friends in AC/DC say: “It’s a long way to the top, if you want to rock and roll.” And never forget that the journey of a thousand miles begins with one. single. step.
